‘A musical out-of-body experience’

That’s how Vladimir Jurowski describes Silvestrov’s Fifth Symphony in the London Philharmonic Orchestra’s April podcast. Here the work live on Wednesday at Royal Festival Hall, in a programme including cellist Mischa Maisky performing Yusupov’s Cello Concerto and Georgian composer Giya Kancheli’s Another step.

Philharmonia Orchestra Rehearsal on ScreenPlay

Come down to The Clore Ballroom at Royal Festival Hall tomorrow morning and watch one of our Resident Orchestra, the Philharmonia Orchestra, rehearse for their concert that evening on our larger-than-life installation, ScreenPlay.

Pianist Nikolai Lugansky performs Rachmaninov’s mighty Second Piano Concerto in this concert – and in this special video the soloist himself takes you through this great piece in the piano repertoire.

Jukka-Pekka Saraste conducts Stravinsky’s The Firebird Suite in this performance as well. Find out more about this magical work with the Philharmonia Orchestra’s listening guide.

The Venezuelans are coming!

Next week we host the Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela – not just for concerts in Royal Festival Hall, but for open rehearsals, chamber music and more. If you’ve not got tickets, come down anyway as we’ve got ScreenPlay set up in The Clore Ballroom: you can watch the concerts and rehearsals in a live relay for free.

We’re also hosting a series of talks about the youth music system in Venezuela, and how we could make it happen here in the UK.
